Chronic Illness Assistance

The Sumter County Branch of NAACP is partnering with several local healthcare organizations to assist the uninsured, and individuals suffering from chronic illness.  The service is at no cost to you.  Please contact the local branch at (803)-775-9215.

Christmas Play

The Smith-Sims Family’s 2014 Christmas Program will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, December 19, at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Hopkins. Featured artists are  Rev. Derrick Myers and Deacon Willie Bryant, Kim Sumter and Company, Rayechon McQueen, Demetria Bannister , and others. The Smith-Sims Family Choir also will perform. Salvation Army Meal Servers Needed

The Salvation Army is in great need of on-call volunteers to be ready to help serve meals each evening to the homeless and hungry at the Inclement Weather Center shelter 191 Calhoun Street, Columbia, SC 29201 any evening the temperatures are expected to drop below 40 degrees. now through March 31, 2015.   The opening of the Inclement Weather Center will be determined and communicated each day by noon.  Dinner is served at 7:15 - 7:45 PM, (4 - 6 volunteers are needed at 6:45 PM each evening on all dates of operations) To sign up as a volunteer, please contact Jennifer Lambert at 803-223-9969:

Now through December 31, 2014 , Saluda Shoals Park will come alive in a blaze of more than a million sparkling lights. Holiday Lights on the River features over 400 themed, animated light displays on a two-mile loop of the Park!

Enjoy the Dazzling Dancing Forest with its dancing, lighted trees synchronized to classical and whimsical holiday music. See the three dimensional Victorian Village, Old Man Winter, the holiday classic Twelve Days of Christmas and so much more, all in sparkling lights.

KWANZAA Celebration

Celebrate KWANZAA, Monday December 29, 2014 at 6pm at the Eau Claire Print Building,Ensor Avenue, Columbia 29203.  African dancers & drummers, pouring of libation, meaning of the seven principles, children's skit and more.  Sample ethnic foods, Shop book vendor.  Wear your Afro-centric attire.  Families and children are invited to learn more about this African American holiday. Hosted by Columbia Chapter of Black Social Workers, KRST Temple Universal, ASCAC, the Kemetic Institute and the Association of Black Psychologists.
