Salvation Army Meal Servers Needed

The Salvation Army is in great need of on-call volunteers to be ready to help serve meals each evening to the homeless and hungry at the Inclement Weather Center shelter 191 Calhoun Street, Columbia, SC 29201 any evening the temperatures are expected to drop below 40 degrees. now through March 31, 2015.   The opening of the Inclement Weather Center will be determined and communicated each day by noon.  Dinner is served at 7:15 - 7:45 PM, (4 - 6 volunteers are needed at 6:45 PM each evening on all dates of operations) To sign up as a volunteer, please contact Jennifer Lambert at 803-223-9969:

Healthcare for the Uninsured

The Sumter County Branch of NAACP is currently partnering with several local healthcare organizations to assist the uninsured and individuals suffering from chronic illness.  The service is at no cost to you. Please contact the local branch at 803-775-9215

ALL ACCESS WORKSHOP

Learn about neighborhood leadership, financial literacy and homeownership at Community Development’s ALL ACCESS Columbia workshop on Saturday, March 7, 2015 from 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at Alcorn Middle School, 5125 Fairfield Road.

Additionally, two financial classes will be offered for youth. This year’s classes include:

 

·         Neighborhood Fundraising

·         Crime Prevention (Gang Violence)

·         Creating Cash on a Budget

·         Teenagers and Money (Grades 7 to 12)

·         Climbing the Money Tree (Grades 1 to 6)

·         Rookie Home Buyer

·         Greenery Aesthetics

 

Registration is required. The deadline to register is Wednesday, March 2, 2015 at 5 p.m. There will be chances to win door prizes and refreshments will be offered.
