DONATIONS CAN BE DROPPED OFF AT CPD HEADQUARTERS LOCATED AT #1 JUSTICE SQUARE AT ANY TIME.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:

CITIZENS MUST BE 55 YEARS-OLD OR OLDER

CITIZENS MUST PROVIDE NAME, ADDRESS, TELEPHONE NUMBERS (TO ENSURE THAT THE FAN OR AIR CONDITIONER IS DELIVERED TO THE CORRECT ADDRESS)

Summer Concert Series

CHECK OUT THE CITY OF COLUMBIA PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT'S SUMMER CONCERT SERIES, NOW THROUGH AUGUST 16.  KARAOKE IDOL WILL BE HELD EVERY OTHER WEEKEND AT 6 PM.  THERE WILL BE WEEKLY WINNERS FOR A CASH PRIZE AND THE FINALS WILL BE HELD ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 16.  ATTENDEES ARE WELSOME TO BRING BLANKETS, LAWN CHAIRS AND COOLERS. 

THE SUMMER CONCERT SEREIS IS HELD FROM 7 TO 10PM AT FINLAY PARK, 930 LAUREL ST. FEATURING THE FOLLOWING ACTS:

·                        August 2- Daniel Lewis

·                        August 9- Coconut Groove Band

·                       August 16- Horizons

BREW AT THE ZOO

August 1, 2014 from 7p- 9:30p, guests ages 21 and up can walk through the Zoo with their souvenir tasting glass, sampling from more than 200 specialty domestic, import and microbrews. The plaza will feature live entertainment and concession stands will be open around the park with a variety of food for purchase. In addition to concessions, each year a different themed buffet is also available for purchase. Brewmasters will be on-hand to answer questions about home brewing, the brewing process and different brew styles. Proceeds support ongoing conservation and education efforts at Riverbanks. Riverbanks Zoo & Garden encourages responsible drinking. All guests must present valid photo identification upon entering the park. No one under 21 will be admitted. Checker Yellow Cab will be standing by for all participants. Riverbanks Zoo and Garden will pay the first $10 of fare destined for private residences or hotels within Richland and Lexington counties. 

 

Riverbanks Zoo and Garden is located at I-126 and Greystone Boulevard near downtown Columbia. The Botanical Garden entrance is located in West Columbia off Hwy. 378 at Botanical Parkway.

Clothes For Kids

SHOP FOR CHILDREN IN NEED THIS TAX FREE WEEKEND, AUGUST 1-3.

This year's Tax Free weekend, August 1-3, is a great time to help us with our Clothes for Kids efforts. The concept is simple. Our tables and displays will be set up starting on Friday, August 1 at Columbiana Centre (near Hollister and JC Penney) and Columbia Place Mall (Food Court). Visit us at the table. Select a child's card and go shopping. Our table attendants will be available to assist you. Donations are due back on Sunday, August 10 by 5 p.m.

The Sumter Branch NAACP & Mt. Pisgah AME church is sponsoring a "Back to School, Stay in School Bash, Saturday, August 9, 2014, from  2p- 5p at Mt. Back to School Drills and Skills Clini

Don't miss the Annual Mayor's Back to School Drills and Skills Clinic!  Youth ages 6 to 17  can participate  in a week long instructional clinic and expand their skills in basketball, tennis, and golf.  The clinics run from August 4th through 8th  from 6 to 8 p.m.  Deadline to register is August 1st.  For  more information please call the City of Columbia  Parks and Recreation Department  AT 803-545-3100.
