Slaughter Gang/Epic Records21 Savage is closing out 2018 with a milestone: his first #1 album.

Released December 21, the rapper’s sophomore studio disc I Am > I Was has debuted at #1 on the Billboard album chart with first-week sales of 131,000 units.  His debut solo studio album Issa Album reached #2 in 2017.

Savage’s album includes features from Travis Scott, Post Malone, Childish Gambino, Offset and more.

The album’s release came with some controversy, though: Savage apologized for the song “ASMR,” which features the line “We been getting that Jewish money. Everything is Kosher.”  LeBron James, who’d quoted that line on social media, also apologized.

Controversy aside, 21 Savage also has something else to celebrate other than a #1 album: He received two Grammy nominations earlier this month — Record of the Year and Best Rap/Sung Performance — for “Rockstar,” the Post Malone track on which he’s featured.

Elsewhere on the chart, A Boogie With Da Hoodie has debuted at #2 with his new album Hoodie SZN.  It’s his second full-length studio album.  His debut full-length studio release, The Bigger Artist, peaked at #4 in 2017.
