I have to admit The 19th Annual BET Awards show was better than years past! Here are some highlights listed below:

  • Cardi B opened the show performing “Press” and with her husband Offset for “Clout” She won best Female Artist of The Year and Best Album for “Invasion Of Privacy”
  • Host Regina Hall brought DC to LA with GoGo Music performed by James Funk from Rare Essence and Suga Bear from E.U.
  • Da Baby Charlotte, NC represented the Carolinas in a major way.  What was crazy is BET IG page listed him as the new artist of the year and it was actually Lil’ Baby!  C’mon BET – get it right, I know it was a long night though!
  • Marsai Martin (Creator of the movie Little) is a young boss, she won Young Rising Star Award
  • Lizzo was amazing with her cheeks out and played the heck out of that flute and twerked for us too! Who knew, LOL!
  • Snoop Dog won The Best Inspirational Gospel Song Award.  Congrats Snoop!
  • Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus made a Yee-Haw Grand Entrance walking the carpet on horses, gotta love that!
  • BlacKKKlansman won Best Movie Award – John David Washington sounds just like his father Denzel Washington
  • The Exonerated Five was a pleasant surprise, glad to see them grace the BET Awards stage!
  • Lean Waithe and Melina Matsoukas gave us a sneak peak of her latest film Queen & Slim coming out in November
  • Regina King won the best Actress Award but Regina Hall did a funny skit about not winning, I know it was all in good humor!
  • Rihanna presented Mary J.  Blige with 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award.  The Queen of Hip Hop Soul took the stage did an incredible performance of her hits and performed with Method Man (btw looked like a whole meal, lol) and Lil Kim!
  • DJ Khaled’s energy is always HIGH Octane level
  • Ella Mai took home the Viewer’s Choice Award for Trip, she was SO surprised, but happy she won.
  • Tyler Perry was a highlight for me last night as he accepted the Icon Award! His speech was everything – #Ownership
  • Kirk Franklin, GP are you still with him, lol yeah they are and Kelly Price sounded amazing!
  • I appreciated the tribute mention on John Singleton and Nippsey Hussle (they even changed to red carpet to blue to honor him) Some people commented on social media about an Aretha Franklin tribute but if you remember they did one during Black Girls Rock.
  • Johnny Gill ended the night with “Before I Let Go” a great singer he is but I felt like it was a bit out of place, just my humble two cents…… Log on to our social media page to see more hightlights and videos….. @hot1039sc or @get2knowneek
