- The rapper YNW Melly is on trial for two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of his pals YNW Juvy (Chris Thomas, 20), and YNW Sakchaser (Anthony Williams, 21). Reportedly, Melly encouraged followers to watch trial on his Instagram page.
- Melly wrote, “Go watch and support me during trial. Send a prayer for me. Day 2 @lawandcrime.”
- Monday (June 12) marked the start of the opening statements in the YNW Melly trial, more than four years after Melly was detained and accused of shooting his pals in a car driven by YNW Bortlen (Cortlen Henry) and fabricating a tale that the men were killed in a drive-by shooting.
- The defense team for YNW Melly presented evidence on the opening day of the trial suggesting that YNW Bortlen, who is accused of murder and accessory to murder, may have been the actual perpetrator. They also question the police’s investigation and assert that Melly lacked motive for these murders.
- Why do you think it is wrong for the prosecution to use his song as evidence in this trial? Why do you agree with the prosecution’s usage of the song?

- The fourth day of YNW Melly’s double murder trial has come to an end, and the judge has dismissed a significant piece of evidence against the rapper.
- Melly is suspected of murdering YNW Juvy (Christopher Thomas Jr., 19), and YNW Sakchaser (Anthony Williams, 21) in October 2018.
- Judge John Murphy III rejected the prosecution’s attempt to connect Melly to the crime on Thursday (June 15) by labeling a video from his Snapchat memories as “prejudicial.” In a similar vein, the rapper’s music video for “Murder on My Mind” was prohibited from being used against him.
- After the decision, Melly gave his lawyer David A. Howard a fist bump, as seen in the video that was shared online.
- Why do you agree with the judge’s decision not to use Melly’s music video against him during the trial?
- BOOSIE…
- YNW Melly is being tried for the 2018 shooting deaths of his friends, and Boosie recently uploaded video (below) live from the Fort Lauderdale, Florida courtroom. Boosie claims that what he has already witnessed has given him the motivation he needs to attend all upcoming rapper murder trials and practice law.
- He said, “#MELLYTRIAL I’M NOT MISSING NO MORE RAP MURDER TRIALS“
- He continued, “THIS S**T IS EDUCATION NO [CAP] WATCHING THE DEFENSE N PROSECUTION DROP BARS THEN LOOKING AT THE JURORS TRYIN TO READ THEM IS CRAZY“
- He added, “I WANT TO STUDY LAW. I WANNA TRY IT ,I THINK I CAN BE A DEFENSE ATTORNEY R AT LEAST HELP SOME ATTORNEYS OUT I’M MOTIVATED.”
- Boosie recently was arrested by federal agents in San Diego after appearing in court for a non-related gun charge.
- Why do you think that Boosie’s outspoken nature might have triggered his arrest by federal agents?
